Spandex Machine

Spandex is one of the earliest developed and most widely used elastic fibers, with the most advanced and mature production technology.

There are two main methods for making spandex yarn: dry spinning and melt spinning.

The dry-spinning method uses solvents, which not only harm the environment but also pose risks to human health. The residual toxic solvents in the products have been banned by the European Union for use in making spandex for underwear. On the other hand, the melt spinning method does not require solvents and produces no waste during the process. This makes the product free of toxic substances, often referred to as "green spandex." Melt-spun spandex uses TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) chips as the raw material, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional spandex production.

Application of Spandex Machine

Application of Spandex Machine

Melt-spun spandex yarn is more comfortable and safer than dry-spun spandex, making it a popular choice for underwear, sportswear, yoga wear, and baby clothing.

Spandex yarn specifications range from 11dtex to 3750dtex, with 20D, 30D, 40D, 70D, and 140D being the most commonly used. Of these, 40D accounts for over 50% of usage. It is widely used in doubling, weft knitting, and warp knitting applications.

In recent years, 70D has gained popularity, second only to 40D, and is primarily used for covering, cotton bales, and knitting. Fine denier yarns like 20D and 30D are growing rapidly, especially for underwear, socks, and circular knitting machines.

140D/210D is commonly used for lace, webbing, and socks, with thicker denier yarns being preferred for webbing. Some international brands also use this yarn in diapers.

Performance and Advantages of Spandex Machine

Melt spinning:

Low investment, simple process, environmentally friendly, and suitable for fabric production.

Advantages:

  • No water consumption during the melt-spun spandex process.

  • No harmful solvents like DMAC and DMF are used, keeping the process clean.

  • No solvent residues in melt-spun spandex yarn, making it green and safe.

  • Environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

  • Soft, comfortable to wear, and provides good resilience.

Spandex Machine Working Process

The production of spandex involves several methods such as melt extrusion, reaction spinning, solution dry spinning, and solution wet spinning. Each process begins with a monomer reaction to form a prepolymer, which then undergoes further reactions to produce the fiber by pulling.
